How-to Guides

This user guide describes how to create and manage tenants on DT Cloud Services’s cloud infrastructure, and how to access, configure and deploy web applications on virtual machines on these tenants. The procedures differ slightly depending on the client platform (that is, the user’s computer operating system) and for many operations, several access methods are available.

The client side requires few resources apart from a terminal window for SSH access and a web browser for the GUI. Thus, many operations can be performed on Windows as well as on MacOS or Linux. For more complex packaging and deployment tasks, software might be required that runs natively under Linux.

The operating system on virtual machines on the cloud side is Linux, so some familiarity with common Linux commands is required.

System Prerequisites

  • DT Cloud Services account with login credentials

  • Client PC with Internet connectivity

  • DT Cloud Services VPN only for very specific cases which are highlighted throughout the guide

Knowledge Prerequisites

  • Basic Linux administration (in particular Ubuntu)

  • Installation of Python packages

The OpenStack architecture is shown in Figure 1.

The how-to guides roughly follow this architecture, with each chapter dedicated to a functional area or a specific OpenStack object.
